Sweet little reindeer charms bound in mid-air at the bottoms of these earrings. Above each deer, adorning the ear-wire, is a firepolished, faceted bead of Czech glass in warm, tawny brown.
Czech glass is famous worldwide for its high quality. Firepolishing is a technique whereby the beads are 'polished' by subjecting them to a very hot flame, creating a bright, shiny surface. Firepolished glass sparkles almost like crystal.
The reindeer, or caribou, is the only deer species in which both the males and females have antlers. The antlers are often magnificent: huge and many-branched, with webs of bone between the prongs.
These wee reindeer are made of gold-coloured pewter, and have both impressive antlers and curling, swirling, Art-Nouveau style designs on their bodies. They are wonderfully detailed, holding their heads high as they leap.
The earrings measure 51mm from top to bottom, and are lightweight and easy to wear. The little deer measure 24mm from top to bottom, including the baile (hanging loop), and 16mm across.
The kidney-shaped ear wires are made of stainless steel, plated with gold.
